An excellent selection of Pulp Fiction quotes, my favourites being those by Samuel L. Jackson as Jules Winnfield.
Fred Durst, lead singer of Limp Bizkit, has his personal blog on Xanga. Hasn't been updated in some time, but makes for an interesting read.
Ever wondered who's blocked you on MSN? Well you can check!
What is it?
Listen to Lonely Planet Travelcasts on the go. I particularly enjoyed the Turkey travelcast and the beautiful sounds of the Muslim call to prayer (or adhan). Here are clips of adhans from around the world.
Today
Kevin and I missed our second grand round in a row this morning. A third and we'll hit a home run. I woke up at 830, told myself "It's alright, you've got 10 more minutes of sleep" and when I next open my eyes it's 930.
I visited Canary Wharf for the first time ever (yes I know, unbelievable for someone staying nearby), and was quite taken by its minimalist skyscraper architecture. I loved the tube station much to Bev's bemusement, who couldn't comprehend why I was admiring the escalators.
Had dinner with Bev and Kevin at wagamama; there are some who enjoy it but I, for one, am not really into the whole idea of fusion cuisine. A good £13 wasted, in my opinion :s

The Argos purge

Our Argos furniture languishing in a corner with the toilet rolls
Haven't posted in some time but my housemates and I have been busy this week replacing our Argos furniture (urgh) with some quality Ikea stuff. It's been definitely worth the long trek to Ikea's Brent Park store, if not simply to find a replacement for the abomination that was Argos' Malibu desk. The drawers weren't even large enough for A4 sized paper!
Right now, I'm just enjoying the vastness of my new Vika Amon desk. It's so wide, I can barely reach the window :)
Also got myself a new (and very luxurious) swivel chair, a bookcase, a lamp, Swedish meatballs and salmon. A discovery I made at the Ikea Cafe was that smoked salmon with gravlax mustard sauce and a little lemon makes the most delicious appetiser ever.

It's out!
I literally jumped in delight while browsing the games aisle at Tesco. Why? Because the latest version of the football game is out!

Les Choristes

Les Choristes is a magnificent film, a moving tale accompanied by some truly beautiful choral music. Thoroughly enjoyable, one of the best movies I've watched in some time.
Watch the trailer or preview the soundtrack.

On trial

Looks like a kangaroo court to me but there's no doubt this man deserves more than his fair share of retribution.

Lost

So much has been said about Lost that I've succumbed to the hype and ordered the first season off Amazon.com! Absurdly enough, Amazon.co.uk lists the DVD boxset for half the season at £24.99 (half a season??) while the complete season is going for just under £23 on Amazon.com. I'm hoping I can work around the regional restrictions on my DVD drive.

Ulnar radial pulse
When asked to examine a patient today, I placed my fingers on the ulnar side of his wrist while simultaneously declaring that I should be checking for his radial pulse. Then my firm head said, "Can you feel the pulse? I think your colleagues can see that something's wrong..."
And I was wondering to myself, "Hmmm, what's wrong? Maybe it's because he's got a scar there? How is it I can't feel anything?" Gah! :s

Internet radio
It's kind of strange listening to Singapore radio over the Internet. They're reporting morning traffic now, when it's just past midnight here.

The origin of British swear-words
This is hilarious, off kottke.
Excerpt:
The Origins and Common Usage of British Swear-words
Excerpt:
A more childish term for penis is 'willy' or 'willie'. This British English word had audiences sniggering in the aisles of cinemas throughout the UK when the first trailers were shown for the film Free Willy. On the other hand it is tempting to wonder whether or not the celebrated actor and rapper Will Smith had taken advice on the way in which British audiences might interpret the title of his 1997 album Big Willie Style (though it's unlikely he would actually have objected to the misunderstanding). Willie is essentially an innocent playground word, and there was delighted laughter across the land when commentator Brian Johnson referred to two players during a Cricket match, pointing out that 'The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey'.

Rasta

Here's an interesting Wikipedia article on the Rastafari movement.
I've always thought of dreadlocks merely as a hairstyle and a fashion statement, but they surprisingly have a spiritual background. Rastafari wear dreadlocks as part of their religious beliefs.
Reggae and the legendary Bob Marley are often associated with the Rastafari movement.
A little off-balance

Guess what, the weather was pretty darn good today! Frustratingly, my weekend's been rather ruined by an inexplicable bout of vertigo. I've even tried the Epley maneuvre, hoping it would just go away.
My housemates and I are in the midst of a search for a new place. It's all quite frantic at the moment as it seems the landlord's selling and there's a chance we might be asked to move out at short notice. Difficult to find a place when we've got four hospital campuses to contend with.
The head's still a little off-balance, but hopefully I'll be in a right state of mind (literally) for football tomorrow.
Random headers!
I've just added a script that loads random headers from a selection of images. Cool!

Rant at 323
As usual, I'm still up finishing my clinical scenario for tomorrow sigh.
Started my taught module SSM in Histopathology and Cytopathology at King's College Hospital today. I wasn't exactly keen on this SSM to start with; it was my fifth choice and my initial impression was we'd spend hours staring down the microscope at specimen slides.
Obviously, I didn't read much of the module description, as Kevin so poignantly pointed out to me (after all, I copied his entire SSM selection list). Having now seen what's planned it seems fairly interesting; we get to participate in autopsies and specimen cut-ups alongside regular pathology tutorials. Autopsies can be surreal but they do provide a great learning experience.
The real downside is this SSM runs on both Wednesdays and Thursdays and that's an absolute drain, since I've got Spanish going on concurrently on Wednesday afternoons. My timetable is jam packed; I'm finding there's no time to catch my breath in Year 3.

British weather's back

Surveying the grim scenery along Waterloo Bridge on my way to Spanish at the Strand yesterday.
Feels like winter is drawing near, it's getting colder by the day.
iPod does video

Apple unveiled lots of new stuff at its special event yesterday - a new iMac, the much anticipated video iPod and a new version of iTunes that now sells music videos and television shows. The new iPod comes in white and black, and looks very much like a bigger incarnation of the nano.
I'm not entirely convinced about the concept of a video iPod though. First, watching video on such a small screen would personally be a wholly unsatisfying experience and second, whipping out a gleaming iPod while commuting in London would be tantamount to an open invitation for muggers to come forth and claim it as their own.
I prefer the concealed compactness of a nano. Video belongs on my cinema display *loving kiss*.

2½ hours
These clinical scenarios take such a long time to finish argh! I'm just about done, looks like I'll have to make do with 2½ hours of sleep. Sigh. I'm so waiting for the next weekend to come...

Googling me

Have you ever Googled yourself? I've discovered a search for weisheng zhang singapore turns up my old profile on Half Empty as the first result.
Half Empty was an internet design collective I joined while I was in high school. Such collectives were popular then, but membership was almost always by invitation only. I remember being over the moon when I was accepted into Half Empty.
My profile says I'm ploughing through shitloads of quantum physics; all that "advanced science" was, amusingly, no more than my high school syllabus :)

Divine intervention

"I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan'.
"And I did, and then God would tell me, 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did.
"And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And by God I'm gonna do it."

The guy is a total nut. Now he imagines himself to be a modern day messiah, sent to deliver us all from tyranny and oppression? I can't believe the world has to endure 3 more years of such utter idiocy.

There's been so much to take in these past few days, I've hardly had time to draw breath. I'm glad the weekend's finally here.

Two reasons
According to my firm head, there are only two reasons why a rectal examination shouldn't be performed. Either you don't have fingers, or the patient doesn't have an anus. Words of wisdom.

Had lunch at Hakkasan, the dim sum there is heavenly (try the pan fried tapioca too!) and the ambience makes for an excellent dining experience.

Watch him go

Football commercials by Nike and Adidas are always good fun to watch. Nike's 'More Go' commercial is my definite all time favourite, watch as he eludes the stewards with nothing but a pair of Nike Shox.
'The Mission' by Nike comes in a close second, check out Edgar Davids' sublime footwork. "It's just a ball. No! It's rounder!"
